Principles of Pilates

We have a mandatory 30-40 minute introductory session with all new clients before they start a group class with us.

In this session we screen for a history of musculoskeletal injuries/weaknesses as well as postural imbalances and movement dysfunctions.

It is an opportunity to run through the five key postural principles of Pilates:

  • Neutral head and neck
  • Shoulder Blade position
  • Neutral pelvic position
  • Central core recruitment
  • Breathing

With this session you are more equipped to get the most out of the group mat work classes by being familiar with the language, movement and working from the correct muscle groups. It also enables the instructor to tailor exercises more specifically to your needs within a group class.
